City & Guilds offers three different technical certificates at Level 2 covering the beauty industry. You are likely to choose this qualification if you want to cover all of the skills and knowledge you will need to work as a junior beauty therapist. The units covered in this qualification will give you a wide range of progression or employment opportunities.

You’ll learn about how to apply beauty treatments and the human body, which will help you better understand the effects of the treatments.

 

You will learn about the anatomy and physiology of the body including:

  • Working in beauty-related industries
  • health and safety in the salon
  • client care and communication
  • facial skincare
  • manicure treatments and pedicure treatments
  • additionally, other treatments trending in the industry, such as Gel nail polish and lashes.

You will learn through a combination of practical and theory sessions. Additionally, we are open to the public and are run like a professional salon, so you’ll have the opportunity to practice your professional beauty treatments on customers whilst gaining work experience in the industry.

This course requires self-directed study, and you will need to ensure that you are working for a minimum of 3 hours per week self-study. You will have access to resources and handouts to enable you to revise and look over your routines.

The summative assessments for the qualifications require the candidates to undertake:

  • practical tasks
  • knowledge and understanding task(s)
  • an online test

On successful completion of this course, you could progress to a Level 2 Diploma in Beauty, Hair or Media Makeup, or Level 3 Certificate in Massage Therapy.

You will have the opportunity to build the foundation of your professional experience within our on-site training salons before testing your skills with paying clients. You will also visit other local salons, attend masterclasses, visit trade exhibitions, and take part in competitions to boost your skills, knowledge and creativity.

You need to have 4 GCSEs at grade 2 or above, including maths and GCSE English language at grade 3.

You will need a small kit of equipment. We will advise you of what is needed. You will also be required to wear a uniform to meet industry standards.
