The motor vehicle industry keeps everybody moving. Specialist skills are needed by private individuals and industries such as public transport, HGV, retail delivery, breakdown recovery, emergency services and motorsports. If you have recently completed your Level 2 in Vehicle Maintenance, or you have prior experience in the industry, this is the next step in your training. This programme is designed to give students a nationally recognised qualification in vehicle maintenance and repair, providing the knowledge, skills and understanding required to gain employment within the industry.
Study with us and you’ll train in a real garage workshop, working on real cars. Whether you do an apprenticeship or a full-time programme, you’ll face new challenges and stretch your abilities in a realistic working environment. On this programme you will learn the attributes, values, skills and attitudes for working in the motor vehicle industry. The course also covers the diagnosis and rectification of faults in engine, electrical, chassis and transmission systems.
Our state-of-the-art facilities include hybrid vehicle diagnostic equipment and the latest vehicle lifts. We have also been fortunate to receive donations of new vehicles from manufacturers including Hyundai, to offer students the chance to train on a range of engines. Our teachers create an exciting and supportive environment for students – offering insights and tips from their careers in the motor vehicle industry.
What you'll learn
The course covers a wide range of subjects including:
- inspect vehicles
- diagnose and rectify vehicle engine systems
- diagnose and rectify vehicle chassis systems
- diagnose and rectify auxiliary equipment and electrical faults
How you'll learn and be assessed
You will receive instruction, guidance and encouragement to practise and develop the skills necessary to achieve the award.
Attendance at a work placement is a compulsory component of this programme. The course includes an essential trip to the Motorsport show (approx £50).
Entry requirements
5 or more GCSEs grades A*-C (9-4)including English and maths or BTEC Level 2 Diploma grade Merit or Distinction, plus GCSE grade C or above or Functional Skills at level 2 in English and maths.
Students will be required to purchase personal protective equipment and a text book, these are included in your Materials Fee which is payable at enrolment.
