Sport Level 3 National Extended Diploma (Banbury FC)

Pursue a career working in football with a course that mixes playing and training, alongside coaching and learning.

We have joined forces with Banbury United FC to launch a Football Academy. This two-year programme is designed for anyone passionate about pursuing a career in football or sport. Students will be guided on their journey as they prepare for a future in football or beyond.

The Football Academy is open to anyone of any ability. The only requirement is an interest and passion in football. Through it, you will improve your knowledge in a range of sports science topics while also developing both your coaching and playing skills. It will give you excellent knowledge and experience to prepare you for working in the sport or leisure industry, or for progression onto a higher-level course at university.

You study 18 modules over the two years including:

  • assessing risks
  • coaching
  • fitness testing and training exercise
  • health and lifestyle
  • injuries massage
  • instructing physical activity
  • nutrition
  • organising sport
  • physiology for fitness
  • practical team/individual sport analysis of sport performance leadership in sport
  • principles of anatomy and physiology
  • psychology
  • sport as a business
  • sports development
  • work experience

You will improve your knowledge in a range of sports science topics while also developing both your coaching and playing skills.

You will develop self-confidence teamwork and organisation skills. You will be expected to demonstrate an ability to manage your time effectively and be responsible for the football club environment in which you are based.

You will also develop your ability to produce professional documents such as letters and reports and to deliver presentations.

The course gives you the chance to study for the Level 3 Certificate in Coaching Football too, which incorporates emergency response first aid and the safeguarding children workshop.

By the end of this course you will have improved the broader skills vital for success in further study or employment, including:

  • self-confidence
  • speaking in front of others
  • working with others
  • taking responsibility
  • managing your time

The structure of this football diploma is two stages over two years and you need to successfully complete stage one to progress to stage two.

You will complete 18 units for the Football Level 3 Extended Diploma while completing a portfolio of evidence to gain the NVQ Level 2 component of the qualification.

Within your full-time timetable, you will also complete a minimum of 12 hours per week of professional coaching and/or football-related activities. This includes participating in one of our representative teams.

This is a combination of Football and Learning. Successful learners can progress to the Activate Learning Degree in Sports Coaching, fitness & Rehabilitation programme or their pathway to employment.

Match day is Wednesday and you should be prepared for early departure and late return for some fixtures.

Individual learning targets are set each term and you receive regular feedback on your progress in meeting these targets.

Formal assessment is through assignments projects presentations and practical assessments which are set at regular intervals throughout the course.

The functional skills in English maths or ICT is assessed by an external exam.

Five or more GCSEs grades 4 (C) or above including English and maths or a BTEC level 2 Diploma at grade Merit or Distinction plus GCSE grade 4 (C) or above or Functional Skills at level 2 in English and maths
