To lay the foundation for your career or further study, your learning will consist of core units, including:

  • participating in sport
  • sports coaching
  • developing sporting skills and tactical awareness
  • performance analysis in sport
  • introduction to healthy exercise and nutrition
  • factors affecting participation in sport and physical activity
  • how to plan, deliver and evaluate an activity session
  • work experience with a meaningful employer, such as a sports club, school or community partnership program

You will gain the knowledge required to effectively plan, deliver and evaluate high quality sporting activities. This will cross over into improved confidence, subject understanding and abilities to support you to progress to pursue further training or career.

This course aims to prepare you for work. You will study at the college for 3 days per week completing your level 2 diploma, GCSE English and or maths resits as well as career readiness sessions which prepare you for the world of work and progress coach sessions which are linked to your personal development. You will then complete 1 day a week placement on either a Thursday or Friday. These placements are an essential and mandatory element to the course. Whilst in your placement you will learn to communicate effectively.

Your course will last one academic year, and once successful will give you the opportunity to progress into employment within the leisure and sports sector or progress into Level 3 courses.

You could progress to:

  • employment within the leisure and sports sector
  • Level 3 courses, such as Sport, Sports Science and Personal Training

You need to have 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or a relevant level 1 award, you will also need to be able to undertake the 1 day a week work experience placement, which will run for 30/35 weeks of the year.

You will be exposed to working in a variety of sections including the reception, the cafeteria, events and the gym and poolside activities be expected to conduct yourself professionally at all times.
