Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector Level 1

Do you want to pursue a career in hair or beauty? Then this is the course for you

Every year, we successfully train many students in becoming fully-qualified for their chosen career. By choosing a career in this industry, you will have the opportunity to combine creativity with customer care; helping people to look and feel great. Beauticians and hairdressers are specialists in discussing and understanding client requirements, analysing and advising on skincare and beauty regimes, giving treatments, applying cosmetics, and advising on hairstyles and haircare.

This Level 1 course will give you a broad base of knowledge and you will learn how to perform effective beauty treatments and haircare. You will attend college full time, participating in practical salon and classroom sessions to gain hands-on experience of these wonderful treatments.

We will help you develop the skills you need to work in the beauty therapy and hairdressing industry, including:

  • communication
  • problem solving
  • professional standards
  • client consultation
  • time management
  • customer care
  • creativity

You will watch demonstrations of all of your treatments and then practice on a partner. Teaching and learning methods will be a mix of: theory, self-directed study, research and practical client sessions. You will begin by working on each other and progress to models.

All of your theory classes will be taught with the aid of a work pack and may also include research whilst in class. The majority of tasks will be completed whilst in class so that you can have help and support in understanding what is required. All work packs and tasks will be delivered and put onto our virtual learning site known as ALO (Activate Learning Online), so that you able to download any information needed.

The programme is divided into 13 units. Each unit has a practical assessment and a graded piece of work. A portfolio of evidence will be built up during your course and practical observations of your treatments learnt and recorded.

You will be assessed on each of your practical treatments which are carried out on the general public as well as family and friends. A minimum of 95% attendance is required on the programme to ensure you are not missing essential information.

There are no qualification entry requirements for this course.
