Making progress in your studies: Why your attendance matters.

A message for students from Cheri Ashby, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Activate Learning.

Hi,

I hope that you’ve enjoyed the half-term break and had the opportunity to relax and recharge.

Before the new half-term term starts back next week, I wanted to take a moment to talk to you about the importance of getting back into your routines as quickly as possible, so that you’re able to make the most of your learning.

It’s important to remember that turning up and going to your classes is crucial to your success, especially when the finishing line is in sight.

Why attendance is important

Better attendance = Better grades: You can’t learn if you’re not here. Every missed lesson is a missed opportunity to take in new information and practice new skills.

Routine makes life easier: Sticking to a routine and having a schedule helps you stay on top of your work and manage stress levels.

Reliability is a good habit: Just like in a job, showing up on time and being present is a habit that will help you succeed at college and in life!

How to get back into good habits

Set a routine: Routines help you by creating a framework for daily activities, helping you to prioritise tasks and stop you from delaying.

Be present and engaged: When you get involved in your lessons, ask questions, take part and challenge yourself, you get much more from your learning experience.

Ask for help if you’re struggling: If something is making it hard to attend, or there is something that’s making learning hard for you right now, talk to your tutor, Progress Coach or any other member of staff that you feel comfortable to speak with.

Small things can make a big difference, you just need to commit and show up.

On behalf of the Education Leadership Team, we look forward to welcoming you back on campus next week and wish you every success in your studies over the next half term.

With kind regards,

Cheri Ashby
