Activate Learning has received funding to provide catch-up tuition to small groups of students affected by the disruption to their education caused by the Covid pandemic.
We recognise that some people will need extra support at the start of the year and these small tuition groups of no more than five students will be designed to get them up-to-speed so they can move forward with their studies.
This support will be available in three ways:
Support for English and maths
Students in need of support will be identified by tutors, who will be able to identify their specific needs and refer onto the small group catch-up team. Students will also be encouraged to refer themselves if they feel they need additional support.
The team will then look at the needs required of every student, creating tailored plans to provide on-going tuition, focussed support and feedback.
Subject specialism catch-up
Tutors for other subject areas will also be working to identify those who are falling behind, potentially falling behind, or lacking the sufficient foundation skills required to thrive in their chosen subject area.
Once identified, we will identify a suitable specialist to provide catch-up tuition or the teachers will provide additional tailored support beyond the normal curriculum provision.
Study-skills
Some students may have fallen out of the habit of learning, which will impact on them as they start the new year. Our intervention coaches will work with tutors during classes and via regular meetings, to identify these students and help them get back to learning.
This will involve some assessments and small group tuition to support the development of these good educational habits and help them to improve their ability to learn.
